This article explores hybrid cloud deployments and the benefits for Business Intelligence and Corporate Performance Management systems. The modern business culture is flying high in the sky – with cloud computing as the vehicle for companies of any size. It wasn’t always this way, as anything cloud-related seemed new, vague, and unsecure. But with time and technological advances, accessing company data from anywhere you can connect to the internet, as well as cloud computing’s scalability has lowered costs and made this development in technology for business relevant to organizations of any size. Following suit, Business Intelligence (BI) and Corporate Performance Management (CPM) tools have embraced the move to cloud platforms, so if you’re on the data management, analysis, and/or leadership team(s) at your company, you might be unsure how to proceed in terms of incorporating cloud, if you haven’t already made that move. In this article, we’ll zoom in on the benefits of deploying a hybrid cloud system in an effort to take your BI and CPM tasks to the next level. Let’s start by defining “hybrid cloud.” A hybrid cloud connects a private cloud platform, built for a particular organization’s exclusive use with a public cloud, provided by cloud vendors like Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure. Both public and private cloud platforms, operating separately from one another, communicate back and forth via an encrypted connection, employing technology that delivers a portable experience for your data and systems. For example, an organization can utilize an on-premises or hosted private cloud for BI and CPM processes that include information that is deemed more critical or sensitive, but depend on a third-party public cloud vendor, like Microsoft Azure, to host all other workloads. Connecting the two clouds does, however, require an additional investment in the technology infrastructure. Even given the flexibility and scalability of the public cloud as a way to extend the performance of private cloud and on-premises BI and CPM applications, combining the two to form your hybrid does require some technological infrastructure, as well as an investment of your time, money, and/or energy for this connection. A private cloud platform must connect and communicate with a public cloud provider, so a hybrid cloud requires application programming interface (API) compatibility for integrations and unshakable network connectivity. API is defined as a set of sequences, tools, and procedures for software application production. Additionally, an API directs how software components should interact. But there are also potential issues related to the public cloud piece of the hybrid. To read more about hybrid cloud deployments for BI and CPM processes, click here .
